Snow Peak Giga Power Torch

Sometimes a piece of gear is so cool, you need one without having a practical use in mind. That was my thinking when I first tinkered with the Giga Torch from Snow Peak. When I took it to Horse Shoe Canyon Ranch for our Bi-annual Rock Trip I figured I would show it off to every body, and let them figure out a use for it. After the initial reaction of "Whoa, that is cool" that results from firing it up, and the obligatory crack pipe jokes, we found that this thing is UNPARALLELED when it comes to starting camp fires. Good bye to the days of lighter fluid and armfuls upon armfuls of kindling, this thing makes that stuff obsolete. Simply screw it to a canister of Isopro, light, and point and a pile of wood. Within minutes you will have a raging fire! I also found it toast bagels perfectly, and suspect it will be great for drying off wet boulder problems (area 74 anyone?). So anyways, buy one to impress your friends, and you will save yourself the trouble of stoking dying fires, gathering twigs and leaves, and eating soft cold bagels! I am sure that over time I will find countless things to use this for, but even if I don't the coolness factor makes it well worth it!

I used the torch this weekend to start a brush burning pile. Awesome! My neighbor even came over and said, "that might be hard to get started, it's all a bit damp still." I pulled out the torch and said "clearly you've never seen one of these." It was awesome. I also use it for starting fires in my wood buring stove. It eliminates having to cart around fire starters.
