Osprey Exos 34

Osprey Exos 34

So I just added another pack to my quiver. Recently purchased the new Osprey Exos 34 liter (available in 34, 46 and 58). This pack will fill my "weekend" need and ultralight 3-4 day. One thing to note - this pack is so new - that the listed weight (for medium frame) is different on the pack label (1 lb 12 oz), vs the catalog/website (2 lbs, 2 oz). I called Osprey and they said to use the Website information. Bangin'! Full aluminum frame suspension for just a hair over 2 lbs! When I first slipped into the pack - it set a little high on my hips - but as soon as we put some weight in it - it dropped right down into place. The first thing I did - was of course to fire up our hot knife. In my opinion - Osprey always puts WAY to much webbing on their packs. I loaded it up with everything that I might want to carry and then started cutting. Damn thru-hiker mentality. I forgot to weigh all the scraps - but I know I took a couple of ozs off of it. I love the new Airspeed suspension - as it doesn't bow way into the inside of the pack like the old Atmos did. The pack is listed to carry between 15-25 lbs. It really likes 17-18 lbs, and anything over 20 - you can tell it is starting to get out of its optimum range. SO - ultralight gear is a must! I took it out with winter gear for a weekend and it carried like a dream. (MSR Hubba tent (fast and light set up), WM Versalite bag, Thermarest Prolite 3 shorty pad, WM Flash Vest, ArcTeryx Celaris Jacket, ArcTeryx Alpha LT shell, 2 layers of Icebreaker and tights, MSR filter, Platypus Big Zip 3 and 1 liter bottle, Jetboil PCS, small dity bag and food). The mesh hip pockets are perfect for your Ipod and a couple of ProBars/Snickers. The external side compression straps come factory with one on the inside and one on the outside of the pocket - I suggest switching to the outside configuration so you can still get a water bottle in the pockets. It even has an ice ax loop - so this will be my 14er pack this summer.

About Us

Why Dynamic Earth Exists

There is an overwelming need within all of us to experience new things. To immerse ourselves in new experience and find our self and soul a bit better becasue of it. We find that being outside, and immersed in the natural world is a way of doing that. In many ways, nature is a playground for man and not nearly a template for industry and further developement.  Many people find it hard to achieve this immersion in nature due to a lack of knowledge, direction, or supplies. We exist to fill this void. We exist to facilitate your immersion in the outdoors, and to make sure that you come back a happier person because of it.
